Grow Your Soul

We have all experienced discouragement, sometimes to despair. These feelings are part of life. Without obstacles and disappointments, our souls would not learn and grow. When I look back on my own difficult challenges, I would not want to do them over. But when I evaluate the growth in myself, it is tremendous. I am grateful for those soul lessons, not just because of the wisdom gained, but I also became a stronger person.

When we are struggling in darkness, it can be difficult to see light. Other people can extend a loving hand, either with a different perspective, or, hands-on assistance. But in the end, we must own our inner journey. It is ours, and it is we who develop the fortitude and mindset to deal with whatever life throws at us.

During one particularly tough time many years ago, focusing on gratitude helped me not only to get through it, and but also to develop a different perspective about myself and life. That’s right! Really seeing and acknowledging all of the blessings, big and small, that surrounded me. Going forward, I built on that. It created a positive mindset in which I could then conceive of hope and possibilities and solutions.

Light begets light, and that which we focus on expands.

There Are Moments

There are these moments
that will haunt me forever,
distant, but distinct,

the same lessons learned
again, they won’t be denied,
important imprints,

but the regrets are
indelible too, embedded
in bittersweet light,

born out of moments
that will haunt me forever,
distant, but distinct.

Embracing Your Amazing Uniqueness

Do you recognize and value your own special uniqueness? We live in a creative universe that is infinite and knows no bounds. Your extraordinary singularity is nothing less than a miracle of Life.

To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment”. In a society that touts conformity and wants to keep you small, the challenge is to objectively identify that which makes you unique, and then nurture and let it bloom, never allowing anyone to make you believe that it’s bad to be YOU.

We are all souls learning here on Earth, separate and yet also bound together as fractals of a greater whole. We each are imperfect (and yet perfect) in our varying stages of personal growth. Perspective, understanding, compassion, and kindness are higher spiritual attributes that go a long way towards helping each other on our individual paths of learning.

It is a common human condition to harbor fears that we are never quite acceptable. We are taught from a young age that conformity to certain standards will earn us society’s stamp of approval. That guarantees us the ultimate ego comfort zone, but at what cost?

Observe the current growing movement for social conformity to a single one-world ideology. If we agree to society’s demand that we think, do, and say the same as everyone else, what kind of lives are we living? Certainly they are not ones we could call our own. This could not be deemed expansive, either in terms of our personal soul growth, or the evolution of the collective we call humanity.

Therefore never let go of what is amazingly, astonishingly, exceptionally YOU. Embrace all of the wonderful attributes that make you a distinctive human being. Defend your right to think your own thoughts and speak your truth.

The world needs your inspired heart and spirit, your inner fire, perhaps more now than at any other time in history.

As a footnote: Rapid and extreme changes are taking place in society right now. The big decision for humanity during this evolution of society is this: Where is the line between the unique individual, who has a soul, who came here to learn and build a life, and their responsibility to society? And is that individual part of society, or a piece of property of the society?

Why Would I?

Why would I want
to be like
everybody else?
Ever?
By some miracle
of Creation,
I am unique,
I came here to
make my own
contributions to
life, society,
and humanity.

If you and I
think like
everybody else,
we all become
a goopy,
boring,
stagnant,
uncreative,
unproductive,
homogenized,
mishmash of
conformist
hive minds
wearing the same hat.

Why would I?
Why would you?

On the Road to Wellness

The events of the past few years have given me much cause to think about how we define wellness. What is most disturbing is the extent to which humans worldwide are living in poor health, either by circumstance or by choice. Humanity as a collective is not in a state of good health.

Yes, there are countries and cultures where poverty dictates the level of health possible. However, in richer countries we see how people are overfed, sedentary, and spending too much time on their computers and phones. These all lead to physical states that make them vulnerable to many diseases.

And who is waiting in the wings with their “magic antidotes”? Big pharma, that collective of corporations who make gargantuan profits from our illnesses. Do you honestly think that generally speaking they have our wellness in mind? We live in a system that reacts to illness, rather than proactively promoting good health. These two positions are light years apart!

Good health is not merely the absence of disease. There Is a vibrancy to wellness that cannot be derived from anything but taking good care of ourselves. All of the good things that we’ve known keep us well still apply. Fresh air, nature, nourishing food, physical exercise, adequate rest, playfulness, companionship, friendship, doing what we love. Oh yes, and the big one, simply LOVE in all of its forms and connections.

How often do you see any of that being talked about in mainstream media? “Seldom” would be an overstatement. Rather we are fed a constant thought diet of dire predictions. Do you notice in the news of late that we keep hearing about the next pandemic around the corner? When you consider the connections between mind, body, and spirit, these messages alone are damaging us. They create worry and fear, which are very low vibration states. Negative thoughts and a low vibration make us vulnerable to physical illness.

In my opinion, wellness is just one of the ways in which our societal systems need a complete overhaul. All change begins with new thought. We need to change how we think about wellness, and develop a new vision for what is possible. A completely new philosophy is in order to move to a new paradigm.

We don’t need to wait for the system to change. We can make the change(s) ourselves (anytime, not just at a new year), and our thoughts, actions, and vibration will ripple outward to influence those around us. It is a “bottom to top” approach of change. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to incorporate more fresh vegetables and fruits into my diet every day, because I get busy and forget to eat them. (Whoosh! There goes another day where I could have nourished my body better. Overall I eat healthy cooked whole foods – not overly processed destructive calories – BUT, there is a high vibration to fresh uncooked vegetables and fruit that cannot be substituted by anything else.)

Another resolution is to get even better at not treating myself like a work robot, too much focused on tasks and performance. As with the high vibration foods, I don’t schedule enough time for high vibration play. I have made progress in this area in the past year, and our two cats are helping me to get even better at it. I take more breaks now to simply be and PLAY with them.

Today I urge you also to embark on a path of personal holistic wellness, if you are not doing so already. And if you are, congratulations because it takes some self-discipline and determination to create and stick to good health habits. Please think about taking it further by encouraging someone else to do so when you see they are asking for help.

By disconnecting from the media negativity, embracing what feels good and resonates with our souls, by listening to our bodies, minds, and spirits, and seeking joyfulness in life, we as a collective can move forward into a much different human experience. Let’s together make 2025 the year to choose true wellness!

Inspirational Quotes:

“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“There are many aspects to success; material wealth is only one component. …But success also includes good health, energy and enthusiasm for life, fulfilling relationships, creative freedom, emotional and psychological stability, a sense of well-being, and peace of mind.” ~ Deepak Chopra

Realizing Your Potential

Do you honor that which is crying out to be expressed in you? Do you arise to greet the days with excitement? Are you living a life that fulfills your innermost talents and desires, one that gives you joy? Or, do you work at a job that does not challenge you to pay the bills, and fill your leisure time with activities that feel even emptier?

These are very big (and frankly hard) questions, ones that you might be avoiding. If your answer is “I drag myself to my job”, it can be a thorny reality check. But wait! Do you think that your beautiful soul really came here to simply to wither on the vine?

Waking up and honestly addressing what is making you unhappy is the first important step towards changing it. It’s just too easy for us to gloss over what feels overwhelming, or numb the discontent with small superficial pleasures. Big change requires small steps. The good feeling you get from even one initial change grows into desire to do more. What can you change today that would move you a step closer to living a life that makes you feel fulfilled?

Society can make it tough to embrace our possibilities. From a young age and as we assert our individuality, we are told “no” quite a lot. “Learn the rules, accept your limitations, and strive to conform.”

Here is a dream that we can dream together for the world’s future: What if our society and education systems were geared to nurture the unique talents in each of us? That is, the innate creative intelligence with which we are each born, and our desire to express it fully. Just think of the world that we could build!

The Power of Love

Love is the force that draws us inexorably together, the glue that will not allow us to give up on each other. It is our greatest challenge and biggest source of miracles. Infinite love already exists in everything that is alive, including you and me. Our love lessons are about removing the obstacles to love. They teach us out how to access, express, and live it. That is, if we choose to learn.

Do you realize? Your love gives you immense personal power to change the world. The mass media news is too often rife with division, hate, and fear. Some people just wait and hope for an external power or institution to cure the big problems of the world, because the events feel too big and out of their control. They will have a very long wait.

Consider that perhaps the high tension in the world right now is a challenge to each of us to work on unlocking our own love. Together we could collectively unleash a world of love that has never been seen before. It begins with each of us, with one random act of kindness, a single word of compassion, a step upward on the stairway of understanding.

It’s one bit of love at a time. It ripples outward and builds. It comes from you and I, and anyone else who chooses to participate instead of just complaining about how bad things are. It’s what the ancient Greeks called “agape”, a selfless love for humanity, and the world sorely needs more of it.

Adopt a global consciousness. Choose to be a living example of love, compassion, and understanding. Work to bridge the divides you encounter. As Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Is a genuine smile a form of love we give to someone else? I think so…

Smiles

Smiles have
this way, they
captivate and
illuminate,
they raise up
our energy
and light up
the world,
the ripple
outward and
boomerang
back to us,
they’re a gift
we give to others
and to ourselves,
so just –

Smile.
