Unlocking Our Love

Infinite love already exists in everything that is alive, including you and me. Our love lessons are about removing the obstacles to love. They teach us out how to access, express, and live it. That is, if we choose to learn.

This can feel difficult in a world that is expressing so much dissension and “un-love”. But each of us is a potential key to healing it.

Fear, anger, prejudice… we employ a myriad of padlocks to hold our love hostage. Every experience around love is an opportunity for self-examination. Our souls desire to learn how to love better.

Consider that perhaps the high tension in the world right now is a challenge to each of us to work on unlocking our own love. Together, we can collectively unleash a world of love that has never been seen before.

Gaia, The Earth Goddess

Gaia, The Earth Goddess

I step from boat to island shore
and she waits for me,
her warm, soft breeze
caresses my cheek,
her lush, verdant scent
fetchingly whispers.

She seduces me.

A gleaming azure sky
calms my agitated mind,
her supple trees drape
the curving roadside,
a satin emerald cloak
befitting the Goddess.

She shimmers for me.

Brilliant sunlight dances
on a turquoise ocean,
waves glittering with diamonds
invite me to play,
graceful sea birds soaring above
call me to be free.

She shines for me.

Exotic languorous lizards
ancient as all time
meander lazily on my path,
scoffing at all clocks,
coaxing me to relax into her
warm, tranquil rhythm.

She soothes me.

Time slips away and
becomes meaningless here,
she feeds my soul
with her enduring grace,
her heart beats to mine
and mine becomes hers.

She saves me.

I wrote Gaia, The Earth Goddess in 2019. This poem is included in my nature collection, Our Beautiful Earth Vol. 2, and my poetry collection, Soul Journey: The Poetry of Life.

I have a boyfriend on Floreana Island in the Galapagos. (The islands that inspired Gaia, The Earth Goddess.) Truth! On a visit there I was sitting on the edge of the feeding platform (Floreana is a sanctuary for rescued giant tortoises), watching some of the males spar. Suddenly one decided to come over and flirt. 🙂 What can I say? It was love at first sight.

Wishing you a beautiful Sunday. 🙂

All I Want for Christmas

All I want for Christmas is World Peace. Well not really, but Santa dear, that’s the big present I want. I also want more Love, Joy, Beauty, Adventure, Abundance, and Celebration. My list is even longer than that, if you have the time to read it. No, I’m not a greedy girl, Santa! I want all of these things for everybody. But what I really want this year, most of all, is World Peace. Can you please bring it to me this year? Can you? Can you?

Santa (trying valiantly not to roll his eyes) scolds me, “Every year you ALL talk about it at Christmas time. Peace On Earth! Pshaw! As long as I’ve been in the biz, people have been asking for it. You’re nothing new. Why should I especially grant you such a wish? You are just one in billions!”

Then Santa asks me to lean in so he can whisper in my ear, and he tells me a secret. We can’t just ask or wish for World Peace to appear under the tree. It’s not something that some company manufactures and we can buy it with money. And he hates to admit it to me (shh!), but even he cannot deliver it! We actually have to claim it, and create it together. We have to choose leaders who are on our side, and if they’re not, they are out on their ears! We also have to make peace for ourselves, with ourselves, with family we may not get along with, with our neighbors, and on it goes… Mending fences, making peace. Peace rippling outward until it becomes a gargantuan wave rolling around an increasingly beautiful world that WE create!

Sounds too simple, right? Not really. Waves of thought can change things in extraordinary ways in a nano second.

So I ask you, will we ALL choose World Peace for 2026? I don’t know about you, but it’s all I really want this Christmas.

It’s All About Love

Letter to Humanity

On the winding path of life we’re here to learn,
that love’s greatest lessons are not be be spurned.

Be faithful and true first of all to yourself,
but don’t leave your heart sitting on a back shelf.

Go bravely in the world, embrace what you see –
Life is a soul school for All humanity.

Love is the compass to navigate our way,
a world full of friendship needs no special day.

The challenge, you see, is to each do our part!
To heal the world, we must all live from the heart.

How Do I Love Thee Better?

Renowned romantic,
Romeo confessed his
love for fair Juliet,
impassioned locution
of sweet young love,
innocence unspoiled.

“How do I love thee?”

A query so complex
the Greeks declared,
“To best understand,
we must divide what
is immeasurable into
quantifiable boxes.

Ludus for flirting,
Eros for passion,
Pragma for partner,
Philia for friendship,
Storge for family,
Agape for humanity.”

A very worthy list
to be sure, and
though incomplete
does beg the question,
“With so much love,
who has time to hate?”

Eternal mystery,
our soul’s mission
often shrouded by
many false starts,
the next question
haunts us forever,

“How do I love thee better?”

Romeo, winking, says,
“You just have no fear!
Strive to love to the
depth, breadth, and height
your heart can reach.
True love is boundless.”

Continuum

The love that we give
ripples outward and swells in
the Infinite heart.

Do the Dance of Spring

How our souls yearn for spring, for the sweetness of it, the rebirth of green and the feeling that no matter how hard the winter was, we endured it. We are finally rewarded with the chance to start afresh…

Our dreams are renewed in spring; we feel like anything is possible. The vitality of life runs through our veins again, just as the sap flows in the trees.

My heart drifts back to sweet memories of spring, accompanying my dad to the sugar bush, snow still on the ground, but the sun promising the coming warmth of summer. And hauling a big tin of maple syrup home, feeling the abundance that the Earth had provided. Even as a kid I appreciated it, the sweetness of this simple annual ritual with my father.

Our backyard boasted both a cherry and an apple tree; one would flower pink, the other white. I loved walking way down to the end of the yard, simply to admire the beautiful blossoms and breathe in their intoxicating, delicate scent.

Much later in adulthood, I discovered travel stories of Japan, and now my soul yearns to visit a place where the cherry blossom is revered and celebrated. Some day I will, paying homage to girlhood memories, springtime, my father, and the beauty of life, which ideally we should celebrate every day.

But oh, how it feels easier to celebrate that beauty in springtime!

In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” ~ Albert Camus

Here Comes the Sun

Here Comes The Sun. This classic Beatles song never fails to make my heart sing. According to Wikipedia: “As of 2021, it was the most streamed Beatles song on Spotify globally.”

The song is now 56 years old, written early in 1969 by George Harrison, apparently at the home of Eric Clapton. So why the sustained popularity?

There is something about the arrival of the sun that is energizing and uplifting. The song is about spring, respite from a cold, bleak winter, when the sun becomes stronger in the Northern Hemisphere. We turn our faces to the sun in gratitude, eager to embrace the fresh start.

This is why each sunrise also feels like a special gift, deep in our souls. It is a tangible sign of each day’s new beginning, and all of the opportunity that comes with it.

Hence this haiku I wrote to celebrate the enduring presence of the sun in our lives:

Grateful for you, Sun,
your ceaseless radiance greets
and anchors my day.

“Around us, life bursts with miracles–a glass of water, a ray of sunshine, a leaf, a caterpillar, a flower, laughter, raindrops. If you live in awareness, it is easy to see miracles everywhere. Each human being is a multiplicity of miracles. Eyes that see thousands of colors, shapes, and forms; ears that hear a bee flying or a thunderclap; a brain that ponders a speck of dust as easily as the entire cosmos; a heart that beats in rhythm with the heartbeat of all beings. When we are tired and feel discouraged by life’s daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there.” (Thich Nhat Hahn)

And, Happy Easter to all those who celebrate it this weekend!
