It’s All About Love

How Do I Love Thee Better?

Renowned romantic,
Romeo confessed his
love for fair Juliet,
impassioned locution
of sweet young love,
innocence unspoiled.

“How do I love thee?”

A query so complex
the Greeks declared,
“To best understand,
we must divide what
is immeasurable into
quantifiable boxes.

Ludus for flirting,
Eros for passion,
Pragma for partner,
Philia for friendship,
Storge for family,
Agape for humanity.”

A very worthy list
to be sure, and
though incomplete
does beg the question,
“With so much love,
who has time to hate?”

Eternal mystery,
our soul’s mission
often shrouded by
many false starts,
the next question
haunts us forever,

“How do I love thee better?”

Romeo, winking, says,
“You just have no fear!
Strive to love to the
depth, breadth, and height
your heart can reach.
True love is boundless.”

Loss Unveils the Masterpiece

Michelangelo knew …

A most powerful
tool of the Master Sculptor,
Loss is.
It was the taking
away that unveiled
breathtaking David
to the world.

“I saw the angel
in the stone and
set him free.”
Inside every raw
slab of marble
a masterpiece waits
to be revealed.

We are all
magnificent works
of art in progress,
and losing a beloved
is perhaps the
greatest Master
chisel of all.

We gasp, clasping
our hearts when
our loved one dies
or leaves us.
How will we ever
risk to love again?
And yet, we do.

For in our loss
we learn to cherish
the value of love.
We understand
the power and
importance of “now”,
and we grow.

Love is the fine grit
that hones the
rough broken edges
to a polished glow.
The answer to our
growth lies within
the problem itself.

Michelangelo, you said
God guided your hand,
and in the taking away,
you revealed
astonishing beauty.
David is your work of love,
and a lesson for us all.

Classic Light & Dark

The classic battle between light and dark is being played out right before our eyes. Remember all those movies where you were cheering for the hero(es) to win, and for goodness to prevail?

In our current reality, sometimes it is difficult to know who is on the side of the light. There are many forces at play, and there is a lot of double talk that makes it confusing.

Now is the time to use your own power of discernment. Look for the signs and the clues to find the truth. Listen to your gut. Here is an essential spiritual guiding thought: Something that truly has your best interests at heart does not want to control you. Control is rooted in dark energy. Energy of the light does not try to dominate and diminish. Light desires expansion, growth, and enlightenment, fulfilling its infinite potentiality.

Now, who has the best interest of you and the rest of humanity at heart?

Inspirational Quotes:

“Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.” ~ Veronica Roth

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” ~ Roy T. Bennett

“You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” ~ Marcus Aurelius

A Different Reality

Just why is it
that we don’t
have a happier
world than this?

What are
we waiting for?
Someone
to give us
permission,
someone to
tell us how
to do it,
someone who’ll do
it for us.

Those some
ones aren’t
coming.

I want a
different reality,
I believe
that must
be possible,
and I want to
help build it.

How about you?

Tally

In the final act,
what will your answer be to,
“Did I live my truth?”

Pieces of Me

Who am I? Genetics, environment, and experience, they have all helped to shape me. I was born into this life with a touch of auburn in my hair from Dad, and long piano playing fingers from Mom.

But father, why did you not give me the flaming locks that run in your Scottish family? Why just a whisper of red for me? I have a fire inside that rages, and a call to blaze a path in this world. My Maori friend calls me “Fire”. Perhaps it is so my flame is evident only to those with eyes that see deeper?

And mother, why was I born with your hands and no musical talent? It felt cruel. It was a source of frustration to me that I failed at piano lessons. Perhaps it was so I could learn to see in myself what is, rather than what is not?

One summer afternoon, the girl I was lay on her bed daydreaming. I left my body and up I rose until I floated among the stars, tethered to Earth by a slender silver thread. I felt infinity for the first time, and I realized that I was so much more than they were telling me.

I am the artist in France, learning to express my soul on canvas. In this present life, I recall those lessons easily. Painting is like breathing to me. That other self walks in Monet’s garden, and I yearn to again. A photo of the Seine in the fog makes my heart ache with longing. It is a happy life.

I am the Japanese geisha in love with a powerful man. He loves me, but we cannot be together. Even now, pink cherry blossoms in spring make my heart both sing and weep, all at the same time. The lesson? I love and I am loved. In the end, the love is all that is important.

Sometimes when I walk along the sidewalk, I recognize a piece of myself in a stranger’s eyes. How can I say what it is exactly? It is fleeting, but I see it, and I feel it.

When I pass a beggar on the street, I attach a blessing to the coin I give. In my mind I say, “I know you, and I feel your pain. I have been where you are. It is a lesson you are learning, and it will all be okay.”

There is so much of me flooding in from the world, sometimes I feel overwhelmed by it. So I wash the dishes or sweep the floor, ordinary tasks that ground me in the here and now.

But I can never deny to myself, or to the world, that which I know to be true: I am stardust. I am Infinite. I am part of it All.

Watchers & Doers

The watchers watch on,
while the doers do,
it’s  been that way for
an eon, or two.

But the world’s changing,
and crumbling, yes,
it’s one more cycle
we must do, I guess.

When it all falls down,
and we see the mess,
who will fix Dumpty?
Not sure, I confess.

Surely not watchers,
they’d watch to their fill,
if they could manage
to play their game still.

This world will be fixed
by those who will work,
there won’t be room for
for those who would shirk.

A broom and hammer
for each of us, we
will clean and construct,
that’s called industry.
