Feel Your Essence

Feeling tired and just a little life torn on this Monday morning? The drama that surrounds us 24/7 is a complicated, human-made matrix that someone has decided to inflict on our souls.

We are complicit. We agree to it! We can overcome this, but we must turn to what is simple and real to find ourselves. We cannot hear our own truth, that wise voice inside, when we are distracted by all that anger, noise, and confusion. Time to take a break:

Walk into this beautiful scene, just for a moment.
Feel the warm sun drenching your body.
Breathe deeply the sweet smell of green on the soft breeze.
Hear the gently trickling, soothing water.
Relax your muscles, and your mind. Go to that place in yourself, that soul center that is wild, free, and unencumbered by the constraints of this 3-dimensional world.
Remember the essence of you…

Inspirational Quote:

“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” ~ Henry David Thoreau

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature, the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” ~ Rachel Carson

“Not just beautiful, though – the stars are like the trees in the forest, alive and breathing. And they’re watching me.” ~ Haruki Murakami

“and when all the wars are over, a butterfly will still be beautiful.” ~ Ruskin Bond

Sunflower Luv

A lighthearted nature post for your Sunday. Sunflowers are my fave flower. Being a sun sign myself, how can I possibly resist them?

Sunflowers are blossoms rolled in sunshine. For many years they’ve been an important part of my garden repertoire. If there is a mixed cut flower bouquet with a sunflower taking center stage, there is no other one for me.

There is probably a bit of ego (ya think?) going on with sunflowers. Here’s a flower that imitates the SUN. They grow BIG, they make up whole golden, gloriously eye-catching fields. In short, they WILL NOT be ignored.

If you are sunflower lover too, do not despair. A passion for sunflowers is a fortunately not fatal attraction. But, here’s fair warning. If you delude yourself that your sunflowers are impatiently awaiting your arrival in the garden, think again. They have only one thing on their minds, which is, “Where’s Mr. Sun now?” The sun is their lover. Any tiny part you play in their world pales in comparison.

The behavior of sunflowers turning to the sun is called heliotropism. They have a 24-hour tracking system that follows the sun everywhere. They’ve even been known to wait in the field at night with their faces turned to the east, awaiting the sunrise.

Now that’s adulation!

“My work is the world. Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird – equal seekers of sweetness. ~ Mary Oliver

Freedom is Yours

You are free when you believe you are.

I know, this sounds too simplistic, yes? But think about it, you were born into this world as a free spirit soul. What changed? What convinced you that you are not free? Society? The rules? Your upbringing?

Freedom begins within ourselves. It is not something someone else gives to us. It is our inherent birthright. It is a belief, a thought form, it resides in the deepest part of our souls. It is always there, but it can become very buried.

Ask yourself today, “Am I really free in my mind?” Be really honest with yourself. If freedom is important to you and your answer is no, perhaps it is time to ask yourself why. What are the thoughts that are holding you hostage?

You are free when you believe you are.  Meditate on that. The doorway is waiting.

Inspirational Quotes:

“Life without liberty is like a body without spirit.”
~ Kahlil Gibran

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
~ Benjamin Franklin

We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.”
~ William Faulkner

“There is no force that can put an end to the quest for human freedom.”
~ Liu Xiaobo

“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.”
~ Bob Marley

“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.”
~ Jim Morrison

“Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves.”
~ Abraham Lincoln

Earth has Her Moods

For many years I have practiced daily walking outdoors. It is a quite, meditative time when I relax and escape from my monkey mind cage.

Ideally, immersing in nature is part of the walk. Daily walking requires a certain self-discipline, because realistically every day does not offer “perfect weather”. (We all have our own definition of that – if we didn’t, people wouldn’t talk about the weather so much.) I have walked in cold, rain, snow, and gloom as much as I have enjoyed sunshine and bright, shiny walks. I have come to love all of it.

Here’s the thing: I love sunshine as much as the next person. And when we’re feeling down, the sun can be a real mood lifter. But depending on what I’m dealing with in my day, sunshine can feel like a good friend trying to jolly me out of my problems, rather than allowing space for my mood.

My observation over the years is that those moody, rainy, snowy, cloudy days also have their own merit for solitude and introspection. They are the perfect back drop to quiet my conscious mind. There I inevitably find the space for the true answers to come through from my subconscious.

Rain or shine, nature is my therapy. Without fail, I find the beauty, grace, quiet and solitude I need to transcend the rat race.

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.” ~ Bob Marley

Her Heartbeat is Ours

Do you feel your connection to Earth? Her heartbeat is connected to us in ways that are only starting to be understood. More scientifically called the Schumann Resonance, this “heartbeat” is an electromagnetic wave that circles Earth’s circumference. It is closely connected to and communicates with our brains.

This from a Gizmodo post, The Earth has a heartbeat we can see from space:

“The wavelength is the circumference of the earth (or twice the circumference, or three times, or four, and so on). This means that the troughs of these waves will always line up, as will the crests. When crests combine, they get bigger. And with lightning hitting the earth over four million times a day, these waves keep getting the boosts they need. The waves don’t sweep across the surface of the earth. Instead they’re like standing waves, that just pulse at their troughs and crests – a resonant heartbeat.”

The Schumann Resonance (the base atmospheric electromagnetic resonant frequency is 7.83 Hz) is closely in sync with our Alpha brain waves (8 to 12 Hz). Alpha waves “are dominant during quietly flowing thoughts, and in some meditative states. Alpha is ‘the power of now’, being here, in the present. Alpha is the resting state for the brain. Alpha waves aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration and learning.” (From What are Brainwaves? – Brainworks, Train Your Mind.)

The scientific study of the full effects of interference with the Shchumann Resonance ELF waves on our well-being is still in its infancy. But, studies to date suggest that when human vibration is out of sync with the Earth’s resonant heartbeat, we are not in a prime state of health. There are many articles outlining the interference and possible detrimental effects played by our synthetic technologies. There are also theories that staying in alignment could play an important part in the future expansion of our collective human consciousness.

But, why not let yourself be the judge? Start noticing how you feel when you spend too much time around TV, computers, cell phones, etc. And comparatively, the next time you’re out in nature, really tune in to how the images, colors, and sounds are affecting your mind and body.

Listen to the Earth’s heartbeat. She is communicating with you, so get to know and feel her language. Whether you realize it or not, she is calling you back to your organic essence.
