Nature’s Relief from the Digital World

When I’m feeling exhausted from computer time, I have a few outlets as the antidote, but one of my favorites is Nature. I’ve been attuned to nature for a long, long time, perhaps because of so much playing outdoors as a kid. (It was a different kind of era.) Nature landscapes were a big part of my artist years, too, so it was a natural progression for it to become an important aspect of my writing.

Nature is not only a path to honing human connection, and also as an antidote to technology exhaustion. Our constant scrolling can cause overload, anxiety, stress, and then projecting that into the future. Nature pulls us back to the “Moment” and the power of now, where our own innate wisdom can be accessed and heard.

Mother Nature has many magic potions up her sleeve. In this case, the haiku message is her power to help us develop the art of mindfulness, and immersing fully in the moment.

When we walk in a nature area and are truly attentive to all the beautiful details, our monkey mind worries about the future and regrets about the past fall away, at least for a little while. We begin to understand the full power of now.

Here is a suggested exercise for you. Next time you go out for a nature break, observe yourself. I have gone for entire walks so wound up in my thoughts, I really did not see much at all. There is a big difference between “looking” and “seeing”. When you make a conscious effort to really see what’s on your path, mindfulness comes into play.

“Observe always that everything is the result of change, and get used to thinking that there is nothing Nature loves so well as to change existing forms and make new ones like them.” (Marcus Aurelius)

“Resonate” is a reminder of why it’s so important to spend time in nature as a health antidote to tech, and to maintain our organic connection to our planet.

The Schumann Resonance, otherwise known as the Earth’s “heartbeat”, is an electromagnetic wave that circles the planet’s circumference, and is closely connected to (and communicates with) our brains. Scientific study of the full effects of Schumann Resonance ELF waves on our health and wellbeing is still in its infancy, but to date it suggests that when human vibration is out of sync with Earth’s heartbeat, we are not in a prime state of health.

There are many articles outlining the interference and possible detrimental effects played by our synthetic technologies. There are also theories that staying in alignment could play an important part in the future expansion of our collective human consciousness.

Start noticing how you feel when you spend too much time around TV, computers, cell phones, etc. Compare that with how you feel in nature. Really tune in to how the images, colors, and sounds are affecting your mind and body. Listen to the Earth’s heartbeat. She is communicating with you, so get to know and feel her language. Whether you realize it or not, she is calling you back to your organic essence.

Nature highlights what is real. As useful as computers are, nothing about them feels real to me. Certainly I have never experienced that elevated feeling of life as a human (called joy) through one. Humans are organic beings, and so is nature. “Enchant” reminds us of the warmth that the cold digital world cannot offer us energetically. The angst in the world feels heavy right now, and there is a lot of that on the Internet. Time spent in nature will lighten you!

The enchanting moments of nature have captivated all of us at some time or another. The soft sweet scent of a certain flower and a golden apricot sky at sunset are two very common human pleasures.

Sunlight filtering through the clouds has become a classic symbol of ethereal connection. I see the rays as an almost tangible expression of the nurturing star that warms our planet, and my heart lifts in witness to this everyday magic.

Enchantment is in the heart of the beholder, and it is not just found in nature. It’s all around us, every day, but we must have some sense of wonder to see and appreciate it. Enchantment is part of our childhood stories. Why do we give up that idea in adulthood? Is life so serious that we cannot acknowledge and enjoy it in our grown-up lives?

Look for those magical uplifting moments that are all yours and hold them close. Delight in them. Let them be your measuring stick, your inspiration, for what you would like life to feel like more of the time.

The takeaway: Use computers yes, and to make connections through them, too. But your first and most important connection is with yourself. Strengthen that, and everything else will fall into place. You will arrive at the Internet fully aligned and present with what feels true to you. That will guide you to making genuine connections. When you inevitably feel drained from too much engagement, you can draw on the energy in nature to recharge and realign.

It’s all about discernment and balance.

On the Road to Wellness

The events of the past few years have given me much cause to think about how we define wellness. What is most disturbing is the extent to which humans worldwide are living in poor health, either by circumstance or by choice. Humanity as a collective is not in a state of good health.

Yes, there are countries and cultures where poverty dictates the level of health possible. However, in richer countries we see how people are overfed, sedentary, and spending too much time on their computers and phones. These all lead to physical states that make them vulnerable to many diseases.

And who is waiting in the wings with their “magic antidotes”? Big pharma, that collective of corporations who make gargantuan profits from our illnesses. Do you honestly think that generally speaking they have our wellness in mind? We live in a system that reacts to illness, rather than proactively promoting good health. These two positions are light years apart!

Good health is not merely the absence of disease. There Is a vibrancy to wellness that cannot be derived from anything but taking good care of ourselves. All of the good things that we’ve known keep us well still apply. Fresh air, nature, nourishing food, physical exercise, adequate rest, playfulness, companionship, friendship, doing what we love. Oh yes, and the big one, simply LOVE in all of its forms and connections.

How often do you see any of that being talked about in mainstream media? “Seldom” would be an overstatement. Rather we are fed a constant thought diet of dire predictions. Do you notice in the news of late that we keep hearing about the next pandemic around the corner? When you consider the connections between mind, body, and spirit, these messages alone are damaging us. They create worry and fear, which are very low vibration states. Negative thoughts and a low vibration make us vulnerable to physical illness.

In my opinion, wellness is just one of the ways in which our societal systems need a complete overhaul. All change begins with new thought. We need to change how we think about wellness, and develop a new vision for what is possible. A completely new philosophy is in order to move to a new paradigm.

We don’t need to wait for the system to change. We can make the change(s) ourselves (anytime, not just at a new year), and our thoughts, actions, and vibration will ripple outward to influence those around us. It is a “bottom to top” approach of change. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to incorporate more fresh vegetables and fruits into my diet every day, because I get busy and forget to eat them. (Whoosh! There goes another day where I could have nourished my body better. Overall I eat healthy cooked whole foods – not overly processed destructive calories – BUT, there is a high vibration to fresh uncooked vegetables and fruit that cannot be substituted by anything else.)

Another resolution is to get even better at not treating myself like a work robot, too much focused on tasks and performance. As with the high vibration foods, I don’t schedule enough time for high vibration play. I have made progress in this area in the past year, and our two cats are helping me to get even better at it. I take more breaks now to simply be and PLAY with them.

Today I urge you also to embark on a path of personal holistic wellness, if you are not doing so already. And if you are, congratulations because it takes some self-discipline and determination to create and stick to good health habits. Please think about taking it further by encouraging someone else to do so when you see they are asking for help.

By disconnecting from the media negativity, embracing what feels good and resonates with our souls, by listening to our bodies, minds, and spirits, and seeking joyfulness in life, we as a collective can move forward into a much different human experience. Let’s together make 2025 the year to choose true wellness!

Our Natural Life Rhythms

Our cats, who like to arise around 5 a.m. every day, remind everyone in our household that there are Earth rhythms. I’ve come to the conclusion that they hear the first bird’s chirp way before we do. The remarkable thing is, they and the birds are accurate within minutes of the hour, every single day! The animals are very tuned into the Earth’s daily cycles.

With eyes half open, sun soon to rise behind me, moon saying hello (and soon goodbye) over yon rooftop, I let them out to survey their garden territory. It gives me pause to think, how many of life’s natural rhythms are we missing out on, every single day, as we run around like mad people being slaves to the clock?

Yes, I hear your retort already… We need clocks to get to our jobs, keep our lives organized, get things done. Indeed. But the next point I will make is, when we’re not tending to those essential tasks that need doing, how many precious “real life” moments are being stolen by the technology that lives at the end of our wrists? That technology is also stealing our health.

Did you know? The Earth’s “heartbeat” (called the Schumann Resonance) is an electromagnetic wave that circles her circumference, and it is closely connected to (and communicates with) our brains.

This from a Gizmodo post, The Earth has a heartbeat we can see from space:

“The wavelength is the circumference of the earth (or twice the circumference, or three times, or four, and so on). This means that the troughs of these waves will always line up, as will the crests. When crests combine, they get bigger. And with lightning hitting the earth over four million times a day, these waves keep getting the boosts they need. The waves don’t sweep across the surface of the earth. Instead they’re like standing waves, that just pulse at their troughs and crests – a resonant heartbeat.”

The Schumann Resonance (the base atmospheric electromagnetic resonant frequency is 7.83 Hz) is closely in sync with our Alpha brain waves (8 to 12 Hz). Alpha waves “are dominant during quietly flowing thoughts, and in some meditative states. Alpha is ‘the power of now’, being here, in the present. Alpha is the resting state for the brain. Alpha waves aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration and learning.” (From What are Brainwaves? – Brainworks, Train Your Mind.)

The scientific study of the full effects of interference with the Shchumann Resonance ELF waves on our well-being is still in its infancy. But, studies to date suggest that when human vibration is out of sync with the Earth’s resonant heartbeat, we are not in a prime state of health. There are many articles outlining the interference and possible detrimental effects played by our synthetic technologies.

There are also theories that staying in alignment could play an important part in the future expansion of our collective human consciousness. The heartbeat of the Earth is connected to us in ways that are only starting to be understood.

Do you notice how you feel when you spend too much time around TV, computers, cell phones, etc? (They are sucking the life force out of us!) Comparatively, the next time you’re out in nature, really tune in to how the images, colors, and sounds are affecting your mind and body.

Our cats would tell you, listen to the Earth’s heartbeat. Nature is communicating with you, so get to know and feel her language. Whether you realize it or not, she is calling you back to your organic essence.
