Blink, they’re gone

Blink

Mysterious glim,
fleeting light of forest nights.
Magic extinguished.

A little magic for your Monday. Enjoy it while you can, as sadly the entrancing little insect that conjures childlike wonder is also on the endangered list. Our insects are disappearing at an epidemic rate.

Shrugging it off is not an option. Insects are at the bottom of the food chain. As they disappear, it affects every living creature that depends on insects for food, not to mention other repercussions related to the balance of nature. And on it goes. We may feel like it is mildly affecting us now, but later, perhaps not. The Monarch butterfly here, the firefly there,… where will it end? We humans like to think we are immune from extinction, but, are we?

If you’re wondering about the science behind fireflies, I found Scientific American’s How and why do fireflies light up? a very interesting read. When I was a kid, I thought fireflies were pure magic.

Blink. They’re gone.

Light Up Someone’s Day

Turn off the news, at least for a little while.

Now go and do something nice for someone. Light up their day.

The positive ripple effect this has on the world is a truth that needs no fact checking! 🙂

There Are Moments

There are these moments
that will haunt me forever,
distant, but distinct,

the same lessons learned
again, they won’t be denied,
important imprints,

but the regrets are
indelible too, embedded
in bittersweet light,

born out of moments
that will haunt me forever,
distant, but distinct.

Eternally

We don’t remember
our other soul lives spent here,
alien Earth plane.

Swaths of sand smooth and
soften hard edges of lost
civilizations.

We visit, then with
infinite impermanence,
return to dust too.

Meaning

Life rushes by us,
at eighty we look back and
we ask ourselves “Why?”

Moment

Shafts of golden light
shine softly through crimson leaves.
My soul steeps in now.
