Black & White & Rainbows

Right, wrong,
north, south,
black, white,
which way do I go?

I have walked the flat
gray plane of existence
that this 3rd dimension
too often can be,
futilely exploring
the monotones of
an oft desolate place,
where each small
blade of grass shivers
sadly in the landscape,
calling out to the sky.

And I’ve wondered –
If white is all color,
and black its absence,
where are the colors between?

So I left that plane
and I’m climbing
a shining mountain;
I will not rest ’til
I find all my colors,
that grand view above
a too narrow horizon.
The trek is exhilarating,
the views are breathtaking,
and I’m heading for that
brilliant peak yonder.

It’s the place of my dreams,
where rainbows gleam
and eagles soar,
and my soul can live free.

Today

Start of a new day.
Have you given your thoughts space
to bring good to you?

This morning I woke up thinking about sunrises and sunsets – not how many I have enjoyed in life, mind you, but how many I have missed – followed by the “requisite regret”. There was quite a bit of negativity built into that first thought of the day. I quickly self-observed and adjusted accordingly, but in the stress of our modern day life, how often are we waking up with anything but thoughts of what to do, how little time we have to do it (time to watch the sun rise? Hah!), and all the problems associated with getting our ducks in a row and making ends meet.

I dipped into my Hart Haiku collection to write today’s post, and decided that “Today” was the perfect one. Have you – did you – give your mind time to formulate the correct thoughts to bring good to you today? Those first thoughts may be the most important work we do each and every day. They set the tone and our intention for our lives. Once we have developed the habit, it is no longer work to think positively. It simply becomes who we are. I don’t know about you, but I obviously still have some work to do in this area…

I’m wishing for you a wonderful day full of good thoughts, and hence, good things.  🙂

Today is from Hart Haiku Vol. 1.

From the Fringe

Travel is certainly one way we can remove ourselves from our regular circle and the group mindset. Every group has one. This has been easy for me to see when traveling to different countries, and the differences in mindset between cultures and communities can be quite startling.

Do you objectively stand outside of your particular community and observe how often everyone adopts the same thought patterns? Why do we human beings have a propensity to do this?

There may be many answers to this, but a couple that come to mind immediately are “to feel safe” and “to feel validated”. How to break out of these needs? It’s an important question, because this need to feel part of the whole at any cost can lead us down the path of sometimes making choices that go against our own inner wisdom.

Hart Haiku Vol. 1

Hart Haiku Vol. 1 is a new ebook to celebrate my 4th anniversary of blogging. The haikus are displayed on colorful photo art cards. I chose 100 from over 150 blog posts between 2019 and 2020 to create the collection, and arranged them to tell a story. Or,… maybe more than one story. But as in life, the stories of nature, humanity, and you are all intertwined. Ultimately, it’s all One.

Click here to download a free copy this weekend. Act today, because it’s not always going to be free. Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend! 🙂
