Your Calling

The upheaval in the world has a built-in silver lining, not yet revealed. Humanity is undergoing a complete overhaul in its value systems. That means how we view life and live it, as well as how much we value our planet and take care of it.

In spite of the fact that some of this is painful, I’m looking forward to the immense positive changes that are possible. How are you feeling about it? Your soul chose to be born into this life and experience these changes. Do you have a sense of purpose to be an instrument of positive change in these times?

Think of this as the biggest theatrical production that has ever taken place on Earth thus far. Will you just sit in the audience and wait for the outcome, or will you step onto the stage and play your part?

Change begins with your thoughts and ripples outward. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. You are part of the greater collective called humanity, and we are all part of One.

Holistic Humanity

How to reconcile
life put on pause
with undeniable
human need to
hug, smile, laugh,
work, play, live,
thrive and be
independent?

It’s impossible;
the human spirit
though resilient
is crushed when
it cannot feel
loving, playful,
productive, and
completely alive.

State of body
now strictly more
important than
mind and spirit,
sad conundrum
that confounds
the holistic health
of all humanity.

*Note: I wrote this poem in April 2021, when many of us were still under heavy restrictions, and had been for over a year. It felt terribly out of balance to me. A handful of people making decisions on the behalf of 8 billion more, who seemingly were not considering the future ramifications of damaged minds and spirits from their decisions based on body only.

And I wonder, have we learned from all of this?

Gaia, the Earth Goddess

I step from boat to island shore
and she waits for me,
her warm, soft breeze
caresses my cheek,
her lush, verdant scent
fetchingly whispers.

She seduces me.

A gleaming azure sky
calms my agitated mind,
her supple trees drape
the curving roadside,
a satin emerald cloak
befitting the Goddess.

She shimmers for me.

Brilliant sunlight dances
on a turquoise ocean,
waves glittering with diamonds
invite me to play,
graceful sea birds soaring above
call me to be free.

She shines for me.

Exotic languorous lizards
ancient as all time
meander lazily on my path,
scoffing at all clocks,
coaxing me to relax into her
warm, tranquil rhythm.

She soothes me.

Time slips away and
becomes meaningless here,
she feeds my soul
with her enduring grace,
her heart beats to mine
and mine becomes hers.

She saves me.

Building Our Lives

There are two essential things, I believe, which bring happiness to people. One is to love and be loved. The other is to feel productive, to have a sense of purpose in life.

If we are lucky, we do work that we love. If we do not love our work (I have been
there, done that, and likely most of us have at some point in our lives), nonetheless, there is satisfaction in the expending of energy to build a life.

Building a life. Within the current scenario of over-regulated society, let’s not lose sight of our desire, and our right, to build lives that we love. Much of our sense of fulfillment is rooted in our deep human drives.

Inspirational Quotes:

“One, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Two, never give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it. Three, if you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don’t throw it away.” ~ Stephen Hawking

“All happiness depends on courage and work.” ~ Honoré de Balzac

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” ~ Mark Twain

“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” ~ George Herman Ruth

“Without ambition one starts nothing. Without work one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Live Boldly

Life is full of choices. Some are small, others large, and the big ones inevitably present us with trials that embody one fear or another. Based on my experiences, I believe that facing our fears and moving through them does in fact help us to build a “courage arsenal”.

The challenge and risks in life are where a significant part of our soul growth is waiting to be discovered…

Inspirational Quotes:

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.” ~ John A. Shedd

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

“Don’t be afraid of your fears. They’re not there to scare you. They’re there to let you know that something is worth it.” ~ C. JoyBell C.

“Have enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time.” ~ Maya Angelou

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” ~ Anais Nin
