Feel the Joy of Our Earth

230502

Yay, May is here again! (How did that happen so quickly?) This is a re-post of one of my very favorite quotes and thoughts – the joy of our Earth and nature expressed through flowers. If April washes away the weariness of winter, the flowers of May herald the return of color, the blooming of our souls. No doubt there are many quotes and tributes to flowers, but Emerson’s words are still a favorite for me. Nature delights in delighting us ~ Here are my words from 2 years ago:

“The Earth laughs in flowers.” Wildflowers in a field, what a wonderful symbol of the joy of nature and the Earth! When I read Emerson’s words, I cannot help but smile inside. They lift my heart, for flowers are a precious gift. Their heady fragrances and gorgeous colors soothe our aching souls.

We need the healing power of nature now more than ever. The Earth is devoted and steadfast with her gifts. In a world that feels increasingly troubled, flowers help us reconnect to our inherent joyful soul center.

If you made it this far, today I am giving away free copies of my ebook Our Beautiful Earth to celebrate what I think is the real beginning of spring – the arrival of May and her flowers. 🙂

Eternal Rhythm

The golden leaves fall,
fearing not the decay of
a coming winter.

Death is essential
to the renewal of life –
All will spring again.

If each in nature
can feel this simple rhythm,
so can humans too.

Why do we resist?
Our fears overshadow the
truth of our being.

But the fall leaves know,
they show us that we too will
green the tree anew.

The Trees Weep

The willow weeps,
the pine trees moan,
all Nature’s feeling it,
deep to the bone.

Humans out of sync,
not hearing their hearts,
the soul of the Earth’s
being torn apart.

“Technology’s call
mesmerized them all,
and why can’t they see,
their hate is a wall?”

The mountains watch,
their strength eons old,
the oceans too have
seen centuries unfold.

They will endure, but
will humans be here?
“It seems they don’t care,
they don’t hold us dear.”

The eleventh hour
draws swiftly nigh,
trees watch us, crying,
“Will this be goodbye?”

Back to the Drawing Board

Sketch1_SusanLHart

I’ve been toying for awhile now with the idea of adding some illustrations to my stories. This means I need to brush up on my drawing skills; I’ve been away from making art for quite some time.

I love wildlife, so this morning I just randomly picked a photo of a bird to work from. I’m not 100% happy with it, but as a quick first attempt, it’s not too bad. Yay! It’s like riding a bike.

I will post some more sketches as I practice. (Sorry for the quality of the photo – in future I’ll scan the work – this will get better.)

Joy of the Unexpected

230326

Imagine walking out your front door one morning to encounter an elephant walking down the street. What a delightful new experience it was for me in Thailand! This is one of the absolute joys of traveling, discovering the new. I do believe that the new is what helps us to grow.

We live in a world right now that wants to nail us down to one place and limited experience. 15-minute cities? I don’t think so, at least not for everyone, and certainly not if we are required to become slaves to that one tiny little corner of the world.

Anyway… the real point is, I think for many of us, our souls crave some adventure to one degree or another. Your essence is spirit, a soul that is infinite. How can it learn when it’s confined to a very narrow band of experience? Something to ponder.

(Here’s a related point of interest for you: Did you know that Thailand means “Land of the Free? Read more about the history here: Land of the Free: How Thailand Got Its Name)

Have a beautiful day. And when you go out walking, bicycling, or driving today, try to take a different route. Discover something new. 😉
