Is Our Love Enough?

“The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.” ~ Carl Sagan

Think about it. Has the Earth ever been without conflict between one faction and another? This jewel of a planet is a prize, but to whom? Do we honestly think it is merely humans that want possession of it? Or is there a much bigger story unfolding than we imagine? Is full possession of human beings also the ultimate prize for the power hungry?

When you think of human, do you think humans are capable of the sort of cruelty that you see before your very eyes? Perhaps a few, but most human beings do not wake up in the morning thinking, “Gee, I think it would be a really great idea to destroy people in another country today”. We simply don’t. We’re thinking about our work, our families, how to build a life within all of this madness. We love. And there’s the crucial difference. We love.

It’s our love for our families, our love of life that keeps us sane and going. But will love sustain us through all of this forever? I suppose in the higher realms, yes. But what about here on Earth, right now? While madmen are threatening each other with atomic weapons, and building robots that they hope will overtake human civilization, how do we factor into the equation? To those “inhumans”, we are mere cannon fodder in the pursuit of their domination.

Carl Sagan was right. We are too caught up in the minutiae of our lives, and not paying attention to the bigger drama unfolding before us. Yes, I think our love has the power to save us, but not in some fairy tale, Pollyanna way. Spiritual warriors love, yes, but they are also prepared to defend and protect that which they cherish.

Choosing to turn a blind eye to the potential devastation nuclear war could wreak is complicity on the part of humanity, and one we can ill afford. There is a very good word, it’s a very short and powerful one, but very underused. That word is “No”.

Divided We Fall

“Together we stand,
divided we fall”,
a lofty premise
that has never
really taken hold,
at least not with
humanity.

See how easily
we are divided
by self-serving
leaders and media
who know how
to manipulate
our fears.

“Sticks and stones
may break my bones,
but names will
never hurt me”,
a child’s retort
for behavior we
never outgrew.

See how easily
we label and
judge each other
with broad stroke
assumptions and
misperceptions,
rolled into hate.

We can blame
the leaders if we
want to, but,
we need to look
at the behavior
we accept
and perpetuate.

A Magical Life

You do, you do, you do… have magic within you! You are at your very core and essence a creator. Just like Dorothy and her ruby shoes in the Wizard of Oz, the power to create your own best life (as well as to change the world around you) has always existed within you. The challenge is to believe you can do it, so do not let naysayers convince you otherwise. Believe in yourself!

How do you tap into your ability to create? You were born with powerful tools at your disposal; I urge you to use them:

  1. Your mind (power of your thoughts)
  2. Your heart (expansive love connects you to it All)
  3. Your higher knowing (also known as your intuition)

Now that’s a lot of power at your disposal! It’s time to create some magic…

Inspirational Quotes:

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” ~ Roald Dahl

“We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already.” ~ J.K. Rowling

Believe in your heart that you’re meant to live a life full of passion, purpose, magic and miracles.” ~ Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” ~ W.B. Yeats

“I address you all tonight for who you truly are: wizards, mermaids, travelers, adventurers, and magicians. You are the true dreamers.” ~ Brian Selznick

“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!” ~ John Anster

“Stories you read when you’re the right age never quite leave you. You may forget who wrote them or what the story was called. Sometimes you’ll forget precisely what happened, but if a story touches you it will stay with you, haunting the places in your mind that you rarely ever visit.” ~ Neil Gaiman, M Is for Magic

Make Some of Them Dirt

Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Go for a drive, and find a dirt road somewhere. Park the car, and get out and walk some of it. Feel the sun on your face and the soft breeze. Hear the birds and smell the green grass.

Or if you cannot in this moment, simply let your mind wander down the road in this beautiful photo, courtesy of Olavi-a (from Sweden), Pixabay. Perhaps it will inspire you to find a dirt road in real life, some day.

Gift yourself with a little adventure! Exploring is expansive and rejuvenating to the mind, body, and spirit. That little dirt road could very well set your soul free.

More inspiring quotes by John Muir:

“The mountains are calling and I must go.”

“The world’s big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.”

“In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

“Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.”

“Another glorious Sierra day in which one seems to be dissolved and absorbed and sent pulsing onward we know not where. Life seems neither long nor short, and we take no more heed to save time or make haste than do the trees and stars. This is true freedom, a good practical sort of immortality.”

“There is a love of wild nature in everybody, an ancient mother-love showing itself whether recognized or no, and however covered by cares and duties”

“One learns that the world, though made, is yet being made; that this is still the morning of creation; that mountains long conceived are now being born, channels traced for coming rivers, basins hollowed for lakes…”

“Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer.”

radiant rippling.

Seeing

Beauty beholder,
open your eyes wide, look deep.
It’s everywhere.

The Offering

The little girl
offered her mum
the flower, a
token of love,
innocence free
of any labels,
expectations,
rules, and
boundaries.

“That’s not
a flower, it’s
a weed! You
don’t give
that to people,
we kill it,
it makes the
lawn ugly,
throw it away!”

Heartbroken,
the little girl
retreated to
her room, not
understanding
why her mother
could not see
the beauty of
her offering.

Years passed,
the girl grown up,
obeying the rules,
prepared to spray
the hated yellow,
so the neighbors
would envy her
pristine grass.

Feeling a tug
on her sleeve,
she turned to
scold her young
daughter for
interrupting this
urgent work,
couldn’t she wait
just a minute?

Her daughter’s
expectant smile,
with little hand
clasping a sad
drooping flower,
“Let’s save this
one, Mommy”,
transported her
back in time.

These days
dandelions live
wild and free
in this front yard,
shouting out
in happy yellow
to all who’ll listen,
transforming a
world of rules to
a journey of joy.
