Light the World

The battle between the dark and light is a classic theme in many of our greatest stories, and in fact we each have our own shadow sides with which we grapple.

Is it my imagination though, that our world is feeling just a tad weighted to the dark side at the moment? When I feel discouraged about it, I take solace in this: In every cycle of this classic battle throughout the ages and when a crisis of the dark occurs, humanity digs down deep to find the best parts of itself. The darkness collapses and light emerges.

Every candle makes a difference, including you, and me, and every other person on the side of the light. It’s time to put our thinking towards how we’ll make this world a good place. We as individuals can choose to write the story we will live. If we don’t exercise our free will and choose, someone else will write our story for us.

We must envision the world we want, and then intend and contribute to it. We must not get distracted by or caught up in the story someone else is trying to write for us. To ensure that our vision of life is written, we all must get in the game and start creating it now, action by intentional action.

Whether you believe it or not, the fate of the world rests partly in your own hands. Find, nourish, and live all the light within you that you can. Be a light for the world.

Crimson Reverie

Friends send word
that it’s a stellar
autumn back home,
punctuated with pics
of unimaginable
flushes of perfect
color, ringing against
deep blue skies,
nudging my heart
to impossible
yearnings…

For long luxurious
walks scented
by Nature’s turning,
the poignant musk of
her full fruition,
apricot and crimson
ablaze with sunlight,
her dazzling glow
embracing me,
bending my mood
and contemplation.

Who ever could feel
tired or defeated
on such days?

I felt naught
but goodness and
rightness on these
halcyon treks,
Nature teaching me
the natural way
of everything –
It is not death,
but a tender
“see you later”,
only to rise up
again, transformed
in sweet green,
bidding me “hello”,
begging me to
walk and talk
of possibilities,
plans, the rebirth
of everything,
including me.

But just for awhile,
how my heart longs
to stroll once again
‘neath that crimson.

Polishing Your Mirror

“If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?” ~ Rumi

Have you noticed the way that some experiences seem to repeat themselves in your life? You become irritated and perhaps even angry, wishing they would just “go away”. But here’s the rub…

When we resist our lessons, they simply come around again in another form. Learn it now or learn it later, it’s your choice. If you choose later, the lesson will likely be more extreme, until you just cannot ignore any more that it is something you are trying to learn.

When we become wise enough to see that life is not just “happening to us”, but that we attract the experiences and lessons we need to grow our souls, then it becomes somewhat smoother. The head bashing stops.

Observation and reflection are key to beginning to unlock and solve our life lessons.

Wholly

Living life wholly, fully, completely,
is a process of learning,
with full awareness
and reverently,
for life IS holy –
I don’t mean religiously,
but yes, spiritually,
and respectfully
of all of Life,
not sacrificially
of yourself,
your own soul,
your learning,
but cooperatively
with humanity,
compassionately,
understandingly,
gracefully,
lovingly,
becoming
wholly
One.

Living Your Passion

Claude Monet’s driving passion in his later years was creating his garden at Giverny. He captured that passion on canvas, creating what was later recognized as a monumental collection of work, his Water Lilies Series.

Have you ever considered what kind of world would we live in if we all followed our soul’s passion? Do most of us even know how to hear our soul’s messages? Too often we manage to muffle them to the faintest whisper, burying our desire for deep fulfillment in some back drawer of our minds. Maybe later… And then later never comes.

Tuning into your soul’s passion

A quote from Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype, by Clarissa Pinkola Estes:

“…One of the most important discriminations we can make in this [life] is the difference between things that beckon to us and things that call from our souls…
…When we are connected to the instinctual self,…which is natural and wild, then instead of looking over whatever happens to be on display, we say to ourselves, ‘What am I hungry for?’

Creative people tend to be naturally tapped into their soul’s passion and are driven by a need to speak it to the world. It may be about any number of subjects; for Monet it was his water lilies and the beauty of nature.

But, living passionately is not reserved for the creative ones only. Deep within each of us lies a deep yearning, a need to experience certain things, to feed our souls, and to express our passion to others.

The shift towards living your passion

What dormant passion lies within you, perhaps still untapped and unspoken? Humanity is experiencing a major shift right now, and it is taking place within each of us. Society as it stands says more often than not that we cannot live our passion and practically speaking make a living at it. But what if that’s not true? What if that is an old message, one we can make antiquated, right now?

What is your passion, that thing that makes your soul sing? Use the questions Clarissa Pinkola Estes suggests above, and jot the answer(s) on a paper.

Then start dreaming. Dream big. Claude Monet’s passion for water lilies could not be contained on small canvases, and later his art captured the imagination of the world. Anything is possible within the realm of imagination. Anything.

As the great author Maya Angelou said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Dare to tell your deepest story to the world, starting now.
