Nature’s Common Sense

Nature presents to us constantly the reminder of our roots, our organic selves, our place in the natural and creative world. It also brings us back to what is real and sensible. In short, we are able to retrieve our commons sense and sanity in what is increasingly an insane society.

Today I’m bringing you some of my favorite quotes from American naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher Henry David Thoreau:

“We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”

“Take long walks in stormy weather or through deep snows in the fields and woods, if you would keep your spirits up. Deal with brute nature. Be cold and hungry and weary.”

210926c

“I have a room all to myself; it is nature.”

210926d

“He who hears the rippling of rivers in these degenerate days will not utterly despair.”

210926g

“Every blade in the field – Every leaf in the forest – lays down its life in its season as beautifully as it was taken up.”

210926e

“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

210926b

“Wildness is the preservation of the World.”

How would you like the future of our children and grandchildren to look? A world dominated by computers, machines, and robots, or one where we are connected to the heart of Nature? The question is important, because we need to make intentional choices for our future now.

Have a beautiful weekend. I hope you enjoy at least a little part of Nature to feed your soul. We all need that sort of nourishment and healing right now.

Goodness Shall Prevail

Time and again throughout history, there are tyrants who seek to dominate and control others. These are the times that challenge the souls of humankind, and we discover of what we are really made.

This time will be no different. Why have they not learned this yet?

The Fire is Awakening

The classic battle between light and dark is being played out right before our eyes. Remember all those movies where you were cheering for the hero(es) to win and for goodness to prevail?

In our current reality, sometimes it is difficult to know who is on the side of the light. There are many forces at play and there is a lot of double talk that makes it confusing.

Now is the time to use your own power of discernment. Look for the signs and the clues to find the truth. Listen to your gut. This is an essential spiritual guiding thought: Something that truly has your best interests at heart does not want to control you. Control is rooted in dark energy. Energy of the light does not try to dominate and diminish. Light desires expansion, growth, and enlightenment, fulfilling its infinite potentiality.

Now, who has the best interest of you and the rest of humanity at heart?

Inspirational Quotes:

“Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.” ~ Veronica Roth

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” ~ Roy T. Bennett

“You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” ~ Marcus Aurelius

Eternally

We don’t remember
our other soul lives spent here,
alien Earth plane.

Swaths of sand smooth and
soften hard edges of past
civilizations.

We visit, then with
infinite impermanence,
return to dust too.

Musings of a Movie Star

I woke up this morning wondering what it would be like if the world had no mirrors. Yes, that’s right, none at all, so that we never saw the reflections of our own faces. We’d have to focus on the merits of our internal landscape much more, yes?

I also have wondered (many times) how different the world would be if the first department in the women’s section of a department store were not cosmetics. This would probably apply to men too, if as much emphasis were put on their beauty as their building of empires.

Physical beauty is a product of nature, and its measuring stick is still too often based on the subjective opinion of a culture or society. Norma Jean was born with the sort of good looks that society craved at the time. The world at large bought into Hollywood’s manipulation of Norma Jean into Marilyn Monroe, imagining they were the same. They were not.

The woman hidden beneath the glamorous facade was crying to be seen for her inner self, trapped by her own drive for success, and Hollywood’s desire to profit from it.

And I wonder, even though we’re slowly getting smarter about all of this, how much are we still buying into society’s definition of who we should be? What do you think?

“If they tell you that she died of sleeping pills you must know that she died of a wasting grief, of a slow bleeding at the soul.” ~ Clifford Odets

Marilyn Monroe quotes:

“The true things rarely get into circulation. It’s usually the false things.”

“It was more fun dreaming about being a movie star than actually being one.”

“Hollywood is a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.”

“I’m for the individual as opposed to the corporation. The way it is the individual is the underdog, and with all the things a corporation has going for them the individual comes out banged on her head. The artist is nothing. It’s really tragic.”

“We should all start to live before we get too old. Fear is stupid. So are regrets.”

“All we demanded was our right to twinkle.”
